Please bring the flier or check your child's backpack mail. 20% of the proceeds will go to support the Fairland ES PTA.

Need someone to run the website

Anybody interested in taking over the website? After five years, it is time for me to hand it off. Prefereably to someone who has a kindergarten'r or first grader. Drop me an email and I can tell you all about it.

I wonder if this could be the oppurtunity for a big brother or sister to rack up some easy SSL hours?

Presidents Message

Autumn days are here!! September and October went by quickly, it is hard to believe that Halloween has come and gone already! I hope that everyone had a safe and exceptionally fun Halloween. The Holiday Season will be upon us before we know it.

Our Fall Fundraiser, Lavender's Holiday Collection, just ended. Order packets went home with students a few weeks ago. Please take a moment to look through the variety of items that are available. Orders were due November 3rd, but we will continue to collect the order forms through Wednesday, November 9th. Fairland receives a profit from our total sales. These profits will go directly to programs that benefit your children like Cultural Arts assemblies, Chess Lessons (starting soon), and FLES (foreign language classes hoping to begin in January).

A special thank you thank you to all our volunteers that helped make the Scholastic Book Fair and Fall Dance a success. We can't run successful programs without you! Thanks also to the room parents that helped our teachers put together AMAZING Halloween parties. The students had so much fun that at the end of the day their faces were completely taken up by huge smiles! Please remember to send any good pictures in to give to our yearbook committee. What is going on this month? Mr. Vaughn Bennett will once again be offering Chess Classes for all interested students on Monday's and Friday's from 8:00 am- 9:00 am in the Media Center. Look for a flyer to come home in Back Pack Mail this week for more information. The PTA is sponsoring a Thanksgiving luncheon for the teachers and staff on Thursday, November 17th, 2011. We could always use help with donations of drinks and/or desserts to be dropped off that morning. Please contact Nikki for more information. Parent-Teacher conferences are this week, please make sure you have signed up to discuss your child's progress with his or her teacher. If you signed up to be a "Someone Special" family, you should have received your "assignment." Please try to surprise your staff member with their first gift by Thanksgiving. If you have not heard anything back, you can contact Carla.

The PTA is a wonderful way to be involved in your child's school and education. We are an organization that believes strongly in advocating for our children and work hard to make a difference in the Fairland community. We would not be able to continue without the help and support of all of our dedicated families. Volunteering your time is up to each individual…we would never expect anyone to take on too big of a role. Please take the time to attend one of our meetings. The next PTA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Center. We always look forward to welcoming new members!

2011 Fairland PTA Bylaws

The 2011 bylaws were presented at the April PTA meeting, and accepted by the general membership. Major changes include, decreasing the number of officers, decreasing the number of MCCPTA delegates to one, and reducing the number of mandatory PTA meetings from nine to seven. The offices of vice president of administration and the vice president of programming have been combined and the positions of corresponding secretary and recording secretary have been combined. The 2010 Fairland PTA By-laws and 2011 Fairland PTA By-laws are available for review.

Free Childcare at PTA Meetings

We are looking for middle-school and high-school students over 13 years of age to baby-sit in the school's All Purpose Room. This is a great opportunity for students to earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. We would like to have 2-3 sitters for each of our meetings. Our PTA meetings are on Tuesday nights starting at 7:30 p.m. and ending no later than 9:00 p.m.

If you know of someone over the age of 13 who may be interested in helping out with this, please contact our PTA Childcare Coordinator

What else does the PTA do?

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Fairland Elementary School is a non-profit volunteer organization which strives to improve the education, socialization and community action of its students, teachers and families. All parents, regardless of membership, are invited to participate in meetings, discussions and events. Our meetings are typically on the first Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 p.m. with social time. The business meeting starts one half hour later in the school’s All Purpose Room. Reminders will go home on flyers in your child’s backpack. Membership monies are used to support the fun and educational events planned throughout the school year for our students and their families.

The PTA works with the Board of Education members, County Council members, and other Northeast Consortium schools to ensure a quality education and facilities for your children. The PTA publishes the Fairland newsletter and school directory and provides funds for teachers to use in their classrooms. Joining the PTA is an easy way to participate in your child's education and support our school. Membership in the PTA is $10 per adult and entitles a paid member to voting rights in the PTA. A percentage of your membership dues stays with Fairland to help support programs designed to enhance your child's learning. Donations are accepted as well. Please pay by cash or check, made out to: Fairland PTA. The entire amount is tax deductible. Click here to print the membership form. If you need more information, contact PTA President Vannesa by email.
