Need someone to run the website
Anybody interested in taking over the website? After five years, it is time for me to hand it off. Prefereably to someone who has a kindergarten'r or first grader. Drop me an email and I can tell you all about it.
I wonder if this could be the oppurtunity for a big brother or sister to rack up some easy SSL hours?
Webmasters Words
Dear Fairland Friends and Families,
Now is a good time to do a little spring cleaning and give some thought to how we can use this web site to improve communication to those e-savvy PTA members. So please drop me an email if there are any features you would like to see added to the web site or find any of what probably are several errors.
2011 Fairland PTA Bylaws
The 2011 bylaws were presented at the April PTA meeting, and accepted by the general membership. Major changes include, decreasing the number of officers, decreasing the number of MCCPTA delegates to one, and reducing the number of mandatory PTA meetings from nine to seven. The offices of vice president of administration and the vice president of programming have been combined and the positions of corresponding secretary and recording secretary have been combined. The 2010 Fairland PTA By-laws and 2011 Fairland PTA By-laws are available for review.

The PTA also helps to sponsor before- and after-school programs such as Foreign language instruction (FLES), Family Fun Nights, the school Book Fairs, and the Fall Picnic.

Free Childcare at PTA Meetings
We are looking for middle-school and high-school students over 13 years of age to baby-sit in the school's All Purpose Room. This is a great opportunity for students to earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. We would like to have 2-3 sitters for each of our meetings. Our PTA meetings are on Tuesday nights starting at 7:30 p.m. and ending no later than 9:00 p.m.
If you know of someone over the age of 13 who may be interested in helping out with this, please contact our PTA Childcare Coordinator
What else does the PTA do?
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Fairland Elementary School is a non-profit volunteer organization which strives to improve the education, socialization and community action of its students, teachers and families. All parents, regardless of membership, are invited to participate in meetings, discussions and events. Our meetings are typically on the first Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 p.m. with social time. The business meeting starts one half hour later in the school’s All Purpose Room. Reminders will go home on flyers in your child’s backpack. Membership monies are used to support the fun and educational events planned throughout the school year for our students and their families.
The PTA works with the Board of Education members, County Council members, and other Northeast Consortium schools to ensure a quality education and facilities for your children. The PTA publishes the Fairland newsletter and school directory and provides funds for teachers to use in their classrooms. Joining the PTA is an easy way to participate in your child's education and support our school. Membership in the PTA is $10 per adult and entitles a paid member to voting rights in the PTA. A percentage of your membership dues stays with Fairland to help support programs designed to enhance your child's learning. Donations are accepted as well. Please pay by cash or check, made out to: Fairland PTA. The entire amount is tax deductible. Click here to print the membership form. If you need more information, contact PTA President Vannesa by email.
